Delusional Disorder

Delusional disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis denoting a psychotic mental illness that involves holding one or more non-bizarre delusions in the absence of any other significant psychopathology (signs or symptoms of mental illness). In particular a person with delusional disorder has never met any other criteria for schizophrenia and does not have any marked hallucinations, although tactile (touch) or olfactory (smell) hallucinations may be present if they are related to the theme of the delusion.A person with delusional disorder can be quite functional and does not tend to show any odd or bizarre behavior except as a direct result of the delusional belief. "Despite the encapsulation of the delusional system and the realtive sparing of the personality, the patient's way of life is likely to become more and more overwhelmed by the dominating effect of the abnormal beliefs". (Munro, 1999)It is worth noting that the term paranoia was previously used in psychiatry to denote what is now called 'delusional disorder'. The modern psychiatric use of the word paranoia is subtly different but now rarely refers to this specific diagnosis.Indicators of a delusion(Munro, 1999)The patient expresses an idea or belief with unusual persistence or force. That idea appears to exert an undue influence on his or her life, and the way of life is often altered to an inexplicable extent.Despite his profound conviction, there is often a quality of secretiveness or suspicion when the patient is questioned about it. The individual tends to be humorless and oversensitive, especially about the belief. There is a quality of centrality: no matter how unlikely it is that these strange things are happening to him, the patient accepts them relatively unquestioningly. An attempt to contradict the belief is likely to arouse an inappropriately strong emotional reaction, often with irritability and hostility. The belief is, at the least, unlikely. The patient is emotionally over-invested in the idea and it overwhelms other elements of his psyche (psychology). The delusion, if acted out, often leads to behaviors which are abnormal and/or out of character, although perhaps understandable in the light of the delusional beliefs. Individuals who know the patient will observe that his belief and behavior are uncharacteristic and alien.

Honesty Is The Best Policy

Do we all lie?It causes problems, to say the least. So why do we do it? Experts say~"It's tied in with self-esteem," says University of Massachusetts psychologist Robert Feldman. "We find that as soon as people feel that their self-esteem is threatened, they immediately begin to lie at higher levels."For me, my habit is not to lie, but not to bother telling everyone every little detail of my life either.I think people that lie want to make themselves look/feel better than others and really they are the lonely / insecure ones. Are there instances when its ok to lie? Who sets these rules? How do you distinguish between the harmful lie and the harmless fib? Once someone has lied to, or about you, can you ever trust that person again?

The Dot

FINALLY, SOMEONE HAS CLEARED THIS UP FOR ME....For centuries, Hindu women have worn a dot on their foreheads. Most of us have naively thought this was connected with marriage or religion, but the Indian Embassy in Washington , D.C. has recently revealed the true story...When a Hindu woman gets married, she brings a dowry into the union. On her wedding night, the husband scratches off the dot to see whether he has won a convenience store, a gas station, a donut shop or a motel in the United States. If nothing is there, he must take a job in India answering telephones giving technical advice.

Friendly Global Warming, Linky Love

FRIENDLY GLOBAL WARMING!
Vic Grace has started something that sounds nifty!"As we are all aware, blogging does give us the opportunity to reach out and yes, 'touch someone' by our words, pictures, links in our blogs and by our comments to fellow bloggers as well.Think about this - in a world today that is too often filled with news of wars all over the world, fears about terrorism, following newspaper and tv news reports about crime, gangs, and you name it of all the bad things we hear about everyday, wouldn't it be a wonderful thing if we, each of us blogging in our own little space, could actually spread the word through friendship and help, through that little bit of effort, to bring people together, united in a common goal of international friendship?"All you have to do is copy this post with the list of links below. Combine the previous links with my tags. Add some tags of your own. As others do the same we get the word out about a lot of great blogs. Eventually we may circumnavigate the globe.

It's almost 12:30 am and I am drop dead tired. Mini Mug ISN'T!So here I am trying to stay awake until she falls asleep. It's a paranoia that I have I guess. I can not go to sleep unless I know she is sound asleep. I guess I am afraid that if I go to sleep I wont hear her if something happens like...ohhh I don't know, she turns into a flying freaking monkey and JUMPS out of her crib...AGAIN. Sigh...I can actually feel the hairs turning gray.
This weekend was pretty nice. We spent the day shopping on Saturday because it rained all day and we couldn't get any outside work done. Dr. Corny bought us a really nice autumn center piece...its huge, but I love it. What do you think?

Can anyone out there help me? This Christmas I want a fake Palm tree with lights instead of a pine tree for Christmas. Anyone know where I can get one of them? I have been searching, but haven't seen one yet...but I DID see one in FL last year, which is how I got the idea..I just can't remember where I see it at...and I am not in FL now.I just ate an ice cold Sloppy Joe...bet ya a nickle I'm gonna have heart burn later. Bet ya another nickle it will hit just as soon as I fall asleep and it will wake me up and keep me up. Sigh..I'm so stupid. Don't mind me, this is just ramblings of an exhausted, over tired, insane housewife and mother.Just finished watching the last episode of Big Love's Season 2. Now I have to wait until next year for season 3. I have Big Love withdrawal. That show, like I said before moves all of my emotions. But it does entertain me, and that doesn't happen often. Hey Bec, guess what. I finally read the damn manual that came with my camera, and now I know how to turn my flash off!!! It's only taken me since freakin April to figure it out. Nooooooooo I'm not the least bit slow!!!
While Shopping on Sat, Mini Bug fell in love with a HUGE stuffed animal. Once she held it, she owned it. We had to spend the rest of the day dragging that thing in and out of stores with her. It was kinda sweet and comical at first...as the day wore on, it became a huge pain in the rump.

As most of you know, we have been remodeling our home, like what seems like forever. I can't remember now, if it is 3 or 4 years...I am thinking close to 4...we have done major major work. Most of that time we have lived in one room while the rest of the house was being finished. We are just now starting to move furniture and things back into the rest of the house. The kitchen is done and now so is rest. We have a living room again..yippeeee!!!!!! I love our ceiling fan above the sectional couch..to me it looks like an air plane propeller.my picture really isn't crooked, I don't know why it looks that way, other than I SUCK at taking pictures!Candy Girl went to the groomer this past week and got shaved again! She is mad. I love when her hair is long and beautiful, but I just don't have the time to take care of it like I should...soooo buzzzzzzzzzzzzz off it came again. Hair grows! That is one mean look she is giving me huh. It's now 1:53 and Mini Bug has finally hit dream land. Thats where I am headed now....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Voting Panel of Doctors

When a panel of doctors was asked to vote on adding a new wing to their hospital, the Allergists voted to scratch it and the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves. The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the administration had a lot of nerve, and the Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception. The Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted; the Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body", while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, Grow up!" The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, the Radiologists could see right through it, and the Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing. The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter." The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists felt the scheme wouldn't hold water. The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas and the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.In the end, the Proctologists left the decision up to some asshole in administration.

Busy Weekend

We had a very busy Labor Day Weekend. We finally finished rebuilding the front deck and got the new gate built. We then did some landscaping. We had to move the walkway, because the old walk way lead to the side of the deck where the old steps used to be, but is now closed in. We move the entrance to the front. So Dr. Corny had to dig up all the stepping stones and replace them. We planted some evergreen trees on each side of the entrance and a bit down the walk way. I like it. When they grow it will be very pretty and be a nicely shaded area.

Yesterday we spent the whole day shopping and playing. After our shopping we went out to eat...we decided on Italian...yummy. Then we went to the track so Corny could run, Mini bug ran with him..I wish I would have gotten pictures of that. I didn't run, I sat on the grass and worked up a sweat watching them run~!
